How do I use TalkBox.Mom for high school?
TalkBox.Mom can serve as your high school foreign-language program while keeping the focus on actually using the language in real life.
Some families give TalkBox.Mom a dedicated place in their school schedule. Others build Practice Sessions and Reviews into the family’s normal day. Either approach can work.
The important part is that the language doesn’t stay inside a school block—after practicing, keep using your Focus Phrases as life happens.
What does high school practice look like?
A high school student can use the same core TalkBox.Mom method:
- choose 1–2 Focus Phrases
- complete 1-2 Practice Sessions per school day
- use the Focus Phrases in real life
- review previously practiced phrases
- continue through the Boxes in additional Tours
During a Practice Session, students practice with native-speaker audio, practice the phrase in a situation, practice it with emotions, and then use the Focus Phrase as life happens.
What about grammar?
TalkBox.Mom teaches students to use grammar inside real language, rather than starting with disconnected grammar rules.
Throughout the program, students can open FAQs connected directly to the phrases they’re practicing. These explain grammar, word choices, cultural context, and other language details that help students understand why native speakers say something the way they do.
As students encounter the same grammar patterns across different phrases, they learn how those patterns work while continuing to actually use the language.
What about culture?
Language and culture are connected, so students also encounter cultural badges throughout the program.
These badges introduce students to people, places, traditions, history, sports, art, institutions, and other cultural topics connected to the language they’re studying.
Each badge includes a short description designed to teach something meaningful about the topic—not just give the student another award to collect.
For ASL, cultural badges also include topics from Deaf history and Deaf culture, helping students learn more about the community connected to the language.
The goal is to help students build cultural knowledge alongside the language they are actually using.
For high school students, the High School Instructor’s Guide also includes a year-long cultural project where students research the countries connected to their language, explore destinations, events, food, activities, safety, weather, and accommodations, and build toward a final Cultural Celebration.
Can I use TalkBox.Mom for high school credit?
TalkBox.Mom can serve as your high school foreign-language program, but requirements for awarding credit vary by school, district, state, homeschool program, and prospective college.
Our High School Instructor’s Guide includes a sample plan built around 120 hours of language study per year, along with schedules for tracking Practice Sessions and Reviews, Cultural Experience Logs, and optional writing and grading components.
Always check the requirements that apply to your student before deciding how to document or award credit.
How can I keep records for high school?
The High School Instructor’s Guide includes sample schedules you can use to track Practice Sessions and Reviews throughout the year, plus a Cultural Experience Log for recording your student’s cultural activities.

Then keep using your Focus Phrases outside of that block so the language becomes part of everyday life.
