What should I put for “How will you use your phrases IRL?”
At the end of your Practice Session, the app will ask:
How will you use your phrases IRL? (in real life)
This step is where your family decides when, where, or during what activity you’ll use your new Focus Phrase before your next Practice Session.
The goal is to connect the phrase to a real moment in your day so it is more likely to actually get used.
For example, you might plan to use your phrase:
- during breakfast or lunch
- while making a snack
- in the car
- during bath time or bedtime
- while getting ready
- during a game or activity
- when you arrive at a specific place
- at a certain time of day
If your child is old enough, have them help choose the moment. When your child knows where they plan to use the phrase, they can start noticing the opportunity themselves instead of always waiting for you to prompt them.
Why do I need to plan this?
Practicing a phrase in the app is only the beginning.
TalkBox.Mom is designed to help your family move from:
hearing the phrase → practicing it → recalling it → using it in real life
Choosing a specific situation gives your brain a cue for when that language belongs.
Instead of trying to remember a new phrase at a random point in the day, you already have a moment connected to it.
Over time, this helps your family build the habit of using more and more of the language naturally throughout everyday life.
What should I type?
It can be very short.
For example:
At lunch
While cutting fruit
In the car after school
At bedtime
When we play outside
You are not writing an assignment. You are simply giving your family a quick reminder of where you plan to use the phrase.
What if we use the phrase somewhere else instead?
That counts!
The plan helps you notice an opportunity, but you do not have to wait for that exact situation.
Whether you use the phrase naturally, in a situation you set up, or quickly before your next Practice Session, using it counts.
What if we forget to use it?
Don’t delay your next Practice Session.
If you get to your next Practice Session and realize you never used your Focus Phrase, quickly use it first, mark that use in the app, and keep moving forward.
You are still building the habit:
practice → plan → use → add more
Consistency grows incrementally. You do not need every phrase to come up perfectly or naturally the first time.
What happens after we use it?
Once at least one family member uses the Focus Phrase in real life, tap the + under the phrase on your Home screen to log the use.
If you chose two Focus Phrases, use each one at least once.
Once your current Focus Phrase(s) have been used, your next Practice Session will unlock.
