Where should I start if I’m a beginner, intermediate, or advanced?
Everyone starts with the same first Box.
Your level changes how quickly you move through the program—and how much language you’re able to add along the way—not where you start.
TalkBox.Mom is built around using the language, not proving how much you already know.
A beginner may choose one short Focus Phrase and spend more time getting comfortable using it. An intermediate or advanced family may choose longer phrases, practice two at a time, move through Practice Sessions more quickly, and naturally add more of the language throughout the day.
So your experience absolutely matters. It just changes the speed and depth of your path, not your starting point.
If you already know the language, ask yourself this:
Are we using the language together every single day?

If you are brand new to the language, you begin with short, useful Focus Phrases connected to things your family already does.
You might start with something as simple as:
I’m hungry.
You practice it with native-speaker audio or video, use it in a real situation, and then bring it into your everyday life.
You do not need to memorize a long list of vocabulary or understand all the grammar first.
You start using the language now, then keep building from there.
Intermediate families start in the same place—but usually move faster
If you already know some of the language, the first Box may feel familiar in places.
That is a good thing.
You may be able to:
- choose longer Focus Phrases sooner
- practice two Focus Phrases at a time
- move through Practice Sessions more frequently
- recognize grammar patterns faster
- use more of the language throughout your day right away
- connect new phrases to language you already know
So your previous experience helps you move faster and go deeper.
You do not need a different starting point.
Advanced speakers still benefit from starting at the beginning
Even advanced speakers—including parents who studied the language for years or earned a degree in it—can benefit from starting with Box 1.
Why?
Because knowing a language and having the everyday language ready to use with your family are not the same thing.
You may know grammar, conjugations, literature, or a large vocabulary and still stop when you need to say something ordinary like:
- Your shoe is untied.
- Blow on your food.
- Don't make a mess.
- Your sleeves are all twisted.

The Boxes are designed to build on each other.
Each one adds language tied to another part of everyday life, while your earlier Focus Phrases continue coming back through Reviews.
If you skip ahead because some of the first phrases look easy, you may also skip the situations, patterns, and real-life language that give later Boxes a stronger foundation.
It is less about asking:
“Do I know this?”
and more about asking:
“Do we actually use this together?”
If the answer is no, there is still value there.
Your level changes your speed—not your starting location
This is the simplest way to think about it:
Beginner: starts with shorter phrases and builds steadily.
Intermediate: starts in the same place but can often choose more complex phrases and move faster.
Advanced: starts in the same place but may move very quickly while filling in everyday language they have never consistently used.
The roadmap stays the same.
Your experience changes how fast you move through it.
You can always go deeper on later Tours
The Signature Box Program is designed to be used more than once.
On your first Tour, you choose the Focus Phrases that make the most sense for your family now.
When you return to the Boxes later, you can choose different phrases, go deeper, and build on the stronger foundation you already have.
That means an advanced learner does not need to skip ahead to make the program challenging.
They can move through the roadmap faster, choose more complex language, and keep adding more to daily life.
TalkBox.Mom is not organized around how much of the language you know. It is organized around how much of the language your family is actually using.
