What if we already know a phrase?
In TalkBox.Mom, the goal is not just to know a phrase when you see or hear it. The goal is to use it in real life.
So if you come across a new phrase that your family already understands, you’ll still practice it in the app and then use it in real life before moving on.
That distinction matters because recognizing a phrase and naturally using it are different skills. A family might feel like they “know” a phrase but still never actually say it during the day. We want the app to keep the focus on turning language you recognize into language your family really uses.
What if the phrase is really easy for us?
If a phrase comes quickly, you can make it your second Focus Phrase in the same Practice Session.
When you choose your Focus Phrase, heart two phrases before tapping Done. Then you can practice both together and use each one in real life.
This can be a great option when one phrase is very short, familiar, or easy for your family.
Why can’t I just mark it complete?
We intentionally don’t have an “I already know this” button right now because we don’t want families accidentally skipping the step that matters most: using the phrase.
Once you practice it and use it in real life, you can keep moving forward. The phrase will also stay available in Recent, and Box phrases will continue coming back through Warm Ups and Reviews.
Try it and tell us what you think
If your family regularly comes across phrases you already know, try adding one as your second Focus Phrase and see how that rhythm feels.
We’d love your feedback as you use it.
